DRKap is an open-source application intended for capturing webcam frames in real time and saving the images to your computer.
Its simplicity and easy configuration make it the perfect tool for any user type, be it someone who never touched a mouse or experienced ones. The forthright interface is mostly occupied by the webcam stream viewing pane, also comprising a few menus dedicated to the configuration options.
Before you can use the application, you should set up the output folder where the captured images will be saved, as well as configure the video source, which should be one of the webcams that is connected to your computer. These options are available by accessing the 'File' menu.
If more than one capturing device are available, you can select the one you intend to use from a simple drop down list.
Once the configuration process is finished, you can start capturing live webcam stream by pressing the designated button in the main GUI. Each snapshot you take is automatically saved in the user-defined location, in JPEG format.
On the downside, the application currently overwrites an old snapshot with the new one, so if you intend on creating an image sequence, you must move each picture as soon as it is saved in the target directory, which frankly, is quite annoying.
DRKap is a minimalistic webcam capturing tool, but its ease of use does not make up for some features that other similar utilities offer. For instance, you cannot record webcam videos and the range of output formats is very limited. Also, the fact that it cannot save each image separately is a bit frustrating.

Add a Window – If you wish to open a third window, or if you just want to make the application more friendly, you can do so simply by pressing the ‘Window’ button on the right.

Settings – This menu allows you to select different parameters, such as the number of pictures to store in’my documents’ and the time interval to capture (hours, minutes).

This utility captures 30fps video as single images (JPEG format, default) or as movie (AVI format).
